As part of National Minority Mental Health Awareness month, NAMI Greater Milwaukee (National Alliance on Mental Illness) has announced the upcoming presentation of Pieces: In My Own Voice, a play intended to educate and deliver information to African Americans coping with mental illness. The April 13th meeting of the Milwaukee Mental Health Task Force will be a special educational program which you won’t want to miss!
Please save the date and note that the meeting will begin earlier than usual at 2:00 and will be at a different location. A huge thank you to Rachel Morgan of the Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin for her leadership in planning this training and to Dr. Sheri Johnson for graciously giving her time and expertise to facilitate the session. Following the training, we will hold our April task force meeting.

| Program | We will view and discuss the DVD entitled “Race: The Power of An Illusion”. The discussion will be facilitated by Sheri Johnson, PhD Assistant Professor, Medical College of Wisconsin. This program is an important training for task force members to support us as we begin to plan our 2010 summit on Mental Health: Race, Culture, and Ethnicity”Following the meeting, the Milwaukee Mental Health Task Force will meet. |

| Meeting Location | We will meet at the Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin at 3020 W. Vliet. Use the first side door on Vliet St. for entry as well or ring the door bells near each parking lot for entrance . |

What State Policy Changes Will Improve Our Addiction and Mental Health System?
Join a moderated dialogue among local stakeholders—providers, advocates, the recovery community and law enforcement officials—and hear updates on parity legislation and regulations. Rep. Sandy Pasch, a policy leader in improving treatment, will help direct the dialogue about how to make parity real.

At the August Mental Health Task Force meeting, there was consensus that our 2009 summit would focus on veterans and mental health. We need your help with planning the summit and are hoping for a great planning committee!!
The first planning committee meeting will be held next Tuesday, August 25th, at 2:00 PM at Disability Rights Wisconsin, 6737 W. Washington St., Suite 3230.

Attend a Community Meeting sponsored by Milwaukee Mental Health Task Force
As someone who is knowledgeable about mental health care in Milwaukee County, you have a unique perspective that can aid in creating system improvements. A community-wide effort is underway to redesign the adult mental health care delivery system in Milwaukee County, and we need your input to make the project a success. You are invited to attend a Community Meeting, sponsored by the Milwaukee Mental Health Task Force to learn about this effort and share your ideas about how to provide improved coverage, access and outcomes for adults seeking mental health care in Milwaukee County.
The project team is eager to hear from people with mental illnesses, their families, advocates, consumer groups, advocacy organizations, service providers, law enforcement, elected officials and policy makers, and other concerned individuals.
Milwaukee Mental Health Task Force general meetings are held monthly on the second Tuesday of each month from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at IndependenceFirst located at 540 S. 1st Street, Milwaukee, WI (414) 765-0606. Please respect the request to attend the meeting fragrence free.
The meetings are open to the public and involvement is encouraged from all sectors of our community.
