2/27 Listening Session to learn about conditions at the Jail for people living with mental illness

The Milwaukee Mental Health Task Force, in partnership with the Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin, Inc., is holding a listening session to learn more about conditions in the Milwaukee County Jail for people living with mental illness. The Listening Session is scheduled for Monday February 27th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM at the Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin, 3020 W. Vliet St. 

Representatives of the Mental Health Task Force, as well as Legal Aid Society, American Civil Liberties Union, and Disability Rights Wisconsin will be present to hear from the community to help inform our efforts to improve safety and treatment at the jail.

June MHTF Meeting – change of location

Join us  Tuesday, June 7 at 3 PM next to Mental Health America for the June Task Force meeting which will include a warm welcome to new BHD Administrator Mike Lappen.  Note the change from our usual meeting date and location – see details below! Milwaukee County Mental Health Board Chair Duncan Shrout will also attend and share a few comments.

Tuesday June 7th, 3 PM – 5 PM next door to Mental Health America of Wisconsin

Please join us for a June 7th 3 PM Task Force meeting, hosted by Mental Health America of Wisconsin, to welcome new BHD Administrator Mike Lappen.   Mike is a Milwaukee native and most recently served as Director of Human Services for Ozaukee County, and has been active on the county and state level in advancing recovery oriented community based services.

In addition to our usual busy agenda, the meeting will include some time to share our priorities with Mike, hear from him, and provide a warm welcome.  We want to give Mike a “welcome” bag with information about community programs and events, so please bring your brochures, flyers, or welcome notes with you on June 7th to add to the welcome bag.  The meeting will conclude with a reception and time for refreshments and networking.    Note the change from our usual meeting date and location.

The program will include a responder panel, to share community perspectives on the report.  Panel members include:

Open Steering Committee Meeting with special guest Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division Administrator, Patricia Schroeder

We hope to see you Tuesday, October 6th for a great opportunity for dialogue with special guest Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division Administrator, Patricia Schroeder.  The Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division is embarking on many changes including plans for a community behavioral health center on Milwaukee’s North side; implementation of Comprehensive Community Services which has the potential to serve thousands of community members;  closing of long term care units at the Complex; the RFP for PCS, Obs and Acute Care; and much more.  Administrator Schroeder will join us on the 6th to provide an update and for dialogue – this is a great opportunity to share your questions, ideas, and concerns.  Please join us on the 6th!
